Latex - A Document Preparation System

Researchers who would like to present their papers to international journals or write their dissertations may suffer if they decide to write them using MS Word taking into considerations the way that MS Word deals with equations and references.

Latex could be a solution for this problem. It is a high-quality typesetting system; it includes features designed to produce technical and scientific documentation. MIT Open Coursware

 The way that MIT shares its courses’ material is very interesting and pioneer. They adopt an open courseware policy that anyone can view, use and make benefit of any of their courses for free. It’s a very helpful model that I hope to be followed by our universities. I invite our instructors and universities’ website developers to look at the quality and way of organizing shared information to know how much efforts were put there and how they can do it in a similar or better way.

Although it is an easy job to get most books that you are looking for in the United States but most times you will find it very expensive and sometimes it exceeds your budget as a student. So, what is the solution for this issue?

Off course you can buy used books from Amazon or eBay but also, you can buy a new book in a reasonable price. How? Its called international editions which are printed outside the States for international readers. For example, an international edition of a book may cost $18 compared to $145 for the American edition on Amazon. This website: https://www.abebooks.com/ can provide you by a lot of books. The disadvantage of these international books are:

1.       The quality of the paper and printing is less than that of the American edition but in general its accepted.

2.       You have to wait about 14 – 30 days to receive the book.

على الرغم من سهولة الحصول على الكتب في الولايات المتحدة الا ان اسعارها تعتبر في اغلب الاحيان عالية وقد تتجاوز ميزانية الطالب فما الحل لهذه المشكلة؟

موقع Kahoot يساعدك في جعل التعليم اكثر متعة!

السلام عليكم،

هذا الموقع يشجع على روح التنافس بين الطلبة ويساعد في جعل التعليم متعة.

متى يستخدم؟

يستخدم في حال احس الأستاذ ان الطلبة قد اصابهم الملل واصبحوا بعيدين عن التركيز في موضوع الدرس ويحتاجون الى تمرين يعيد اليهم النشاط ولا يبعدهم عن جو الدرس.

كم يستغرق من الوقت؟

الأستاذ هو من يحدد الوقت المستغرق لهذا التمرين / اللعبة حسب عدد الأسئلة المطروحة والوقت المحدد لاجابة كل سؤال.

ماهي المتطلبات؟

1.     شاشة رئيسية يعرض عليها السؤال

2.     جهاز كومبيوتر موصول بالانترنيت يستعمله الاستاذ (من الممكن تعويضه بجهاز هاتف ذكي او كومبيوتر لوحي)

3.     اجهزة هواتف ذكية / كومبيوترات محمولة / او كومبيوترات لوحية يستعملها الطلبة للاجابة على ان تكون موصولة بالانترنيت طبعا.

كيف يعمل هذا التمرين/اللعبه؟

1.     تبدأ الخطوة الاولى من خلال دخول الاستاذ الى موقع التمرين على الانترنيت بالضغط على الوصلة التالية https://getkahoot.com/

2.     التسجيل في الموقع من خلال الضغط على Sign up for free وكما ترون فان التسجيل مجاني

3.     بعد اتمام عملية التسجيل والدخول فبإمكان الاستاذ ان يقوم بتصميم

a.     اما مسابقة Quiz

b.     او فتح الباب للنقاش التفاعلي مع الطلبة Discussion

c.      او حتى اجراء استفتاء للطلبة واخذ رأيهم حول موضوع معين Survey

4.     فاذا اختار الاستاذ ان يجري لعبة مسابقة بين طلبته مثلا فيقوم بادخال مجموعه من الاسئلة مع اربعة اختيارات لجواب كل سؤال من هذه الاسئلة وتحديد الوقت اللازم للاجابة.

5.     في النهاية سوف يزود الموقع الاستاذ بوصلة انترنيت يتمكن الطلبة من خلالها الولوج لهذه المسابقة مع رقم للدخول.

6.     تبدأ المسابقة بعرض السؤال الاول على شاشة العرض ويبدأ عداد الوقت التنازلي بالعد

7.     وسيقوم الطلبة باختيار الجواب الامثل من خلال معلوماتهم حول موضوع السؤال

8.     وسيقوم الموقع بتحديد من اختار الاجابة المناسبة وباسرع استجابة وسيعطي درجة لكل شخص حسب دقة وسرعة الاستجابة

شخصيا، كنت قد جربته واستمتعت به كثيرا واتوقع ان يفيد الاساتذة في اعادة جذب الطلبة لجو المحاظرة بطريقة مسلية ومفيدة. وقتا ممتعا.

Prestressed Concrete Notes

Since mid-fifties of the last century, the use of prestress concrete structures has growth with the help of the daily development of construction materials’ technology.

In a discussion with one of my friends he mentioned a very good point. He said that the prestressed concrete structures have the advantages of booth steel and ordinary concrete structures as they are using less materials than ordinary concrete structures with high strength capacity and less maintenance than that needed by steel structures.
